Heute feiert König Simeon II. der Bulgaren seinen 85. Geburtstag!

 

König Boris III. und sein Sohn Kronprinz Simeon.

 

Der am 16. Juni 1937 geborene Prinz Simeon von Bulgarien (später König) war das zweite Kind und der einzige Sohn von König Boris III. von Bulgarien und Königin Giovanna (geb. Prinzessin von Savoyen). Simeon hatte eine ältere Schwester, Prinzessin Marie Louise (geb. 1933). In ihren Memoiren erinnerte sich Königin Giovanna: „ Der Frühling 1937 war ungewöhnlich mild. Die Geburt meines Sohnes schien das gute Wetter noch zu verstärken. Es herrschte eine Ruhe in der unruhigen und komplexen inneren Lage Bulgariens, wie eine Art göttlicher Waffenstillstand. Alle Bulgaren, selbst die Feinde, waren eine Zeit lang glücklich, offen für eine unbekannte Hoffnung, für die Erwartung von etwas Neuem, ohne klare Konturen, aber deshalb nicht weniger real. Simeons Geburt unterbrach diese Kette innerer dramatischer Momente. “ Simeons Geburt wurde der Bevölkerung Sofias durch einen Salut mit 101 Schuss verkündet, der am Tag seiner Geburt um 6:40 Uhr am Himmel über der bulgarischen Hauptstadt abgefeuert wurde. Der Park des königlichen Palastes füllte sich rasch mit Menschen. Königin Giovanna schrieb: „ Inzwischen hatte die Stimme des Volkes meinem Sohn einen Namen gegeben. Die Straßen waren erfüllt von Rufen wie ‚Simeon! Simeon!‘, noch bevor der Palast eine offizielle Bekanntmachung gemacht hatte. “ Die Königin bemerkte, dass sie ursprünglich geplant hatte, ihren Sohn Borislav zu nennen, aber der Beifall der Bulgaren, die seine Ankunft feierten, habe seinen Namen festgelegt.  

 

 

Der Bürgermeister von Sofia, Ivan Ivanov, schrieb König Boris und gratulierte der königlichen Familie zu diesem freudigen Anlass: 

 

"Eure Majestät,

 

Der heutige strahlende Junitag hat dem bulgarischen Volk die größte Freude gebracht! Überall, in Städten und Dörfern, wo ein bulgarisches Herz schlägt und bulgarische Sprache zu hören ist, erfüllen uns alle Freude und Entzücken. Gott hat Bulgarien schließlich nicht verlassen, er liebt es. Das bulgarische Königreich hat heute seinen Thronfolger! Der bulgarische Staat hat neben seinem Staatsoberhaupt nun auch seinen Nachfolger! Die bulgarische Nation schreitet mit neuen Hoffnungen und Idealen voran und erinnert sich an die glorreichen Zeiten von Boris I. und Simeon dem Großen. Es lebe Bulgarien! Es lebe König Boris III.! Es lebe Königin Giovanna! Es lebe der bulgarische Thronfolger Simeon, Kronprinz von Tarnovo!“

 

The following official Act was drawn up by the government in accordance with the arrival of the heir to the King:

 

“This 16th Day of June in the year one thousand nine hundred and thirty seven, Wednesday, the undersigned Georgi Ivanov Kyoseivanov, Chairman of the Council of Ministers, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Religious Denominations and the official on the civil status of the members of the Royal Family, with the assistance of Alexander Petrov Ognyanov, Minister of Justice and Keeper of the State Seal of the Kingdom, by virtue of Article 138 of the Persons Act, in the presence of the witnesses Konstatin Georgiev Panov, head of the office of His Majesty the King, and Doctor Vladimir Penev Matev, administrator of the Princess Clementine hospital, drew up the present act concerning the following: at the Sofia Palace this morning at five o’clock, Her Majesty Queen Giovanna was examined by the private medical advisor Prof. Dr. Walter Stöckel, Director of the University Clinic of Obstetrics in Berlin, Doctor Dimiter Stamatov, Regular Professor, Director of the University Clinic of Obstetrics and Gynaecology in Sofia, and Prof. Dr. Günther Schulze, Chief Physician at the University Clinic in Berlin, who established that the time had come for Her Majesty the Queen to give birth. 

 

For the purpose of greater hygienic safety, the professors Stöckel and Stamatov insisted that the expectant mother be taken to the Princess Clementine hospital where, accompanied by His Majesty the King and the above-mentioned persons, she arrived at five hours and thirty minutes.

 

At five hours and forty-five minutes we were told of the impending delivery of Her Majesty the Queen, immediately after which we proceeded to the above-mentioned hospital which we reached at six o’clock. There we were accommodated in the antechamber of the operating room in which Her Majesty the Queen was and remained waiting for the moment of the birth.

 

At six hours and forty minutes we were invited into the room where, besides Her Majesty the Queen, we also found His Majesty the King and the above-mentioned persons. As soon as we entered, Professor Stöckel showed us a living infant of the male sex, which he had just delivered and which was still tied with the umbilical cord (Funiculus umbillicalis) to the body of the royal mother. The cord was cut in our presence. The birth was normal, without any complications.

 

The newborn infant, which is the second child of His Majesty Boris III, King of Bulgarians, and of Her Majesty Giovanna, Queen of Bulgaria, Princess of Savoy, was given the name Simeon and the title Crown Prince of Turnovo.

 

At eight hours and thirty minutes Her Majesty the Queen and the newly born Prince were taken to the Sofia Palace, accompanied by His Majesty the King, and the professors Stöckel, Stamatov, and Schulze.

 

In confirmation of the above said, we sign the present act together with the above-mentioned witnesses and professors.”

Kronprinz Simeon wurde am 12. Juli in der Kapelle des St. Peter-und-Paul-Palastes mit Wasser aus dem Jordan in den orthodoxen Glauben getauft. Neben dem König und der Königin nahmen an der Taufe des Thronfolgers auch seine Schwester Prinzessin Marie Louise sowie sein Onkel Prinz Kyrill und seine Tante Prinzessin Eudoxie teil. Zur Feier von Simeons Geburt wurden 4.000 Gefangene amnestiert, alte Steuern, Gebühren und Bußgelder gestrichen und der Bildungsminister kündigte eine Anhebung der Noten der Schüler um eine Klasse an. Königin Giovanna erinnerte sich: „ Als mein Sohn seine ersten schulischen Anstrengungen unternahm, lächelte er und sagte, dass er diese Chance nie bekommen würde. “
